(See, Brittany? I changed the name of Julie’s Corner! I’ll see if it sticks.)

What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? What are we supposed to be doing? Go to school, get a job, get a family, save money, retire. Is that basically it?

There’s gotta be more. This video inspires me. Check it out please, then continue reading.

Welcome back. We need more of this. More random acts of kindness. We all know this, right? Blah blah blah, I’ve heard it before. It’s nothing new. But how much are we really doing? Couldn’t we do so much more? Sure, giving lots of money to big charities is great. But it doesn’t have to be that grand. It could be simple things, like holding doors for strangers, or smiling at people on the street. I notice that some peeps seem to have the attitude of “I don’t know you…therefore, we are not friends and I am indifferent towards you.” And that’s bullshit.

So! Let us take a step out of our own circle. I know we get busy with band, kids, home repairs, work, flat tires, etc. Let’s not forget about doing these great things every day. Helping people and making them feel good. Even if we don’t know them. THAT is the meaning of life. Well, at least, that’s what I think.
Random ideas we can try:
-Pay for someone’s toll. All it takes is 5 bucks or so, and that person will remember that awesome deed all day. How often does that happen? Not often. They’ll remember it!
-While you’re waiting in line at the grocery store, strike up a friendly conversation with the person behind you. They might look at you weird. But YOU might be the person who teaches them that talking to people really ISN’T that weird.
-Driving into Baltimore? Bring a bunch of bananas or box of granola bars with you. When homeless people pass by your car and ask for money, instead of ignoring them, hand them a banana and say something nice.
-Tell someone else about that video, or the meaning behind this blog, and get them to start doing more nice things.
-Post a friendly note on someone’s Facebook wall in the morning. “I’m so happy to know you! You make the best crab quiche in the world, MJ!” Something like that.
-Buy a Sweet Leda CD for a friend and give it to them randomly, just because. You’d be helping a friend AND a local band! (had to get that in there, sorry)
-Compliment a stranger.
-Attend a fundraiser. There are so many lately. Pay the cover to get in. Have a good time. Buy raffle tickets.

Note: while you do these nice things, you might get some weird comments. “Why are you talking to me? I don’t know you.” Don’t let these people stop you. People are weird and that’s ok.
