Jaime has three brothers. They are all lovely people. One of them is Steve and he and his wife Allison opened a gym (Stone Forge CrossFit) in Pasadena MD over 2 and a half years ago. I never was a gym-girl, but I love my brother! So we figured we’d visit.
The first time we went, it was super scary. We didn’t go to work out; we went to the opening party so we ate and drank. An activity we are comfortable with! Some people worked out and we watched. They looked stressed, challenged, and sweaty. Jaime and I were like “ummmm no thanks”.
But. It’d be silly to not TRY it once, right? I mean, we need the exercise. And here we are. So we did. And I loved it!! Kind of. I mean, it was awful. But when I left, I felt a great sense of accomplishment. I was proud for going out of my comfort zone, which I don’t often do. And it was fun! Never boring. The workout was filled with many tasks, so it never got old. It wasn’t like running on a treadmill for a half hour, which would drive me crazy.
Now I go twice a week. My favorite thing about it is the way it totally resets my brain. I always leave there with a clean slate. You gotta work SO hard at a CrossFit gym. You gotta focus on your movements to make sure you are doing them correctly. You have to work hard. And you have to count! So much counting. An example of a workout is 10 barbell movements, then 10 ab exercises, then 20 squats with a medicine ball. Then you gotta do that whole sequence a total of 3 times. So first you count 10, then 15, then 20. Then 10 again, 15 again, and so on. The counting is so much harder when your eyes are stinging with sweat. So whatever you were worried about earlier? Whatever you were angry about? Your boss was condescending, a coworker was slacking off, a friend let you down. It just doesn’t matter. You don’t have room for it in your brain anymore. Cuz your brain is swimming with numbers and sweat.
It sounds crazy but it’s awesome. I love it. I’m so thankful for it, and I can’t believe I didn’t start this sooner!! My life is forever changed! Not to mention, my butt looks pretty great. Better than ever! Thank you Steve and Allison.
THANK YOU for reading! I love you and pray for your safety, happiness, and health!
